Colorado Springs does neither — residents contract private trash haulers, and those haulers cap you at the cart. A sofa, a mattress, an old refrigerator, a treadmill: none of it has a municipal path out. This surprises new residents (especially PCSing military) constantly, and it's the single biggest reason people call us.
You have three, really: (1) rent a trailer and haul it to a private transfer station or the Fountain landfill yourself (weight-based fees, your truck, your back); (2) try to sell or donate it and coordinate pickup; or (3) have a crew carry it out for a flat price.
