The short answer

Bed frames are priced by what they are made of, because that is what determines whether one person can carry it or three have to take it apart first.

The minimum for a visit is $75, so a metal frame at $68 on its own reaches the minimum rather than its list price. Almost nobody sends a frame out alone, though — it usually goes with the mattress it was holding up.

Why your frame is in pieces on the garage floor

The single most common bed frame call in this city starts the same way. A family moves into a new build in Wolf Ranch, Banning Lewis Ranch, Lorson Ranch or Flying Horse. The flat-pack queen frame from the last duty station or the last apartment comes apart for the move, and it does not go back together. Two cam locks stripped, the center rail is short a bracket, and the bag of hardware is somewhere in a box marked KITCHEN.

So it lives against the garage wall. Then the second car needs to go in before the first snow, and now it is a problem with a deadline. Particleboard frames do not survive a second disassembly, and there is no realistic repair — the fastener holes are gone. That is the moment most people call.

We take it in whatever state it is in. Assembled, half-assembled, or a stack of panels and a coffee can of screws. Same price either way.

What the climate does to frames here

Particleboard and MDF do badly at six thousand feet in dry air with a thirty-degree daily swing. The board itself shrinks and the glue in the joints goes hard and then lets go. A frame stored two winters in a detached Old Colorado City garage or an unconditioned walkout basement will rack sideways the moment you lift a corner, even if it looked fine standing still.

Solid wood behaves better but is not immune — we see checked and split rails on older pieces out of Broadmoor and Cheyenne Cañon houses, particularly where a frame has sat near a south-facing window. Upholstered frames get the other problem: fabric that has dried and split at the welt, and foam padding on the rails that has gone powdery.

None of that changes the price. It does change how the piece comes out, which is our problem rather than yours.

Bunk beds, loft beds and the Springs kid-room shuffle

Bunk beds are a different job and they are priced separately: $123 for a standard bunk, $148 for solid wood or a loft bed. They are also the piece most likely to be genuinely stuck.

The pattern here is military-driven. A family arrives with two kids sharing a room in base housing or a Fountain rental, buys a bunk, then gets a house in Stetson Hills or Cimarron Hills with enough bedrooms that the bunk is redundant. Lofts get assembled in place in a small room and then cannot clear the door frame in one piece, particularly in the older Westside and Patty Jewett houses where the doorways are narrow and the stair turns are tight.

We disassemble on site. That is included — there is no charge for taking something apart to get it out of the room it was built in.

The PCS timing problem

Frames are the classic thing left behind when orders land. The packing crew works the household goods list. A frame you have already decided is not worth shipping is not on that list, so it stays exactly where it is while everything around it disappears.

Then you are standing in an empty bedroom in Fountain or Security-Widefield the night before the final walkthrough with a disassembled queen frame and a landlord arriving at nine. That is a deposit problem, not a furniture problem.

Book the removal for the day after the packers finish and before the inspection. Summer is the tightest stretch of the year in this city — every household attached to Fort Carson, Peterson and the Academy is trying to move inside the same warm window, and it compresses hard from late May onward. Pick your slot early.

Frames plus the rest of the bedroom

Frames almost always travel with other things. The common combinations, with the arithmetic shown so you can check it:

• Queen mattress and standard metal frame: $103 + $68 = $171.
• Mattress and box spring set with a solid queen frame: $143 + $126 = $269.
• King mattress with a solid king frame and headboard: $114 + $152 + $57 = $323.
• Bunk bed with two twin mattresses: $123 + $82 + $82 = $287.

If the whole room is going — frame, mattress, dresser at $126, nightstand at $57, large area rug at $68 — compare the item total against the volume prices. A quarter truck is $241, three-eighths is $338, a half is $431. We quote you the lower of the two. That is not a special offer, it is just reading the same price list correctly.
